Die Lieder Reimars des Alten presents the songs of Reinmar the Elder, a prominent Minnesänger (lyric poet and singer) of the late 12th century. This collection, edited by Carl von Kraus, offers a valuable insight into the world of medieval German poetry and music. Reinmar's works, often melancholic and courtly, reflect the conventions of Minnesang, emphasizing themes of love, chivalry, and the social norms of the time. Included alongside Reinmar's songs are related works by Walther von der Vogelweide, another significant figure in medieval German literature.
This edition is essential for students and scholars of medieval literature, music history, and German cultural history, providing access to the lyrical artistry of a pivotal era.
