Many murders have occurred in the remote region of the Pilbara in Australia's North-West. This novel follows one of them. Thomas Darlington's life began in the coal mining city of Durham in faraway England. Escaping his humble beginnings and wanting to forge a different life for himself; he travelled the World aboard ships. A chance meeting with his unofficial mentor saw his destiny being mapped-out for the rest of his life in a copper mine at Whim Creek. Wanting to improve the lot of his fellow miners, Thomas organised the Union to come to the mine. That led to a strike and the shipping-in of scab workers by the Company. Destiny had taken Thomas to this inhospitable part of the World; and it is Destiny which sees him still there to-day, more than a century after his death. It is said that Thomas' ghost visits the Whim Creek Hotel from time to time calling for justice to be dealt-out to the murderer. The story does not stop there because Thomas' was not the only life to be touched by Destiny. Others too would suffer and die before the tale comes to its timely end.
