Written between 2015 and 2016, this collection of poems was written while the author was serving as a volunteer with the Kurdish military forces (YPG and Peshmerga) in the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) in both Syria and Iraq. His desire to leave his family, children, and all that he owned to purchase a one-way ticket to the region, and later to be smuggled into Syria to join the Kurdish YPG was the greatest calling upon his heart he's ever known. This collection is a reflection of a life lived as well as lost in many respects, as he looks back upon the many roads traveled that have brought him here. Through his poetry, readers will get a glimpse into some of what he was thinking and feeling at the time as he tried to find some meaning and purpose to his life while providing aid to those less fortunate.
