Dei Sepolcri (Of Sepulchres) is a renowned poem by Ugo Foscolo, first published in 1807. This edition, enriched by commentary from Francesco Trevisan and Francesco Filippi, offers readers a deeper understanding of Foscolo's masterpiece. The poem reflects on themes of death, memory, and the importance of tombs in preserving the memory of the deceased and inspiring future generations. Written in elegant Italian verse, Dei Sepolcri exemplifies the ideals of Romanticism, blending classical influences with a passionate sensibility.
Foscolo's work explores the philosophical and historical significance of burial places, arguing that they serve as vital links between the past, present, and future. This edition provides valuable insights into the poem's historical context and literary merit, making it an essential resource for students and scholars of Italian literature.
