In 2002, Sayed Amir Hussain arrived in Rehri Goth - a fishermen's colony on the edge of Karachi where seventy thousand people lived on land they did not own. On the first of April, with two tents pitched and sixteen children present, a school began.
What followed was a decade of remarkable work: women who had never held a pencil learning to write their names, children reclaiming dignity one lesson at a time, and a community slowly awakening to the possibility that their future might be different from their past.

What does artificial intelligence demand of teachers who are still using nineteenth-century methods? And what remains when an institution fails the people it claimed to serve?
