Henk Lit groeide op in Nederlands-Indië en overleefde de Japanse bezetting, de verschrikkingen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de chaos van de Indonesische revolutie, die zijn familie dwong alles achter te laten. Samen met zijn vrouw Johanna kwam hij uiteindelijk aan in Manokwari, Papoea, met verlies achter zich en een onzekere toekomst voor zich.
Daar, te midden van ziekte en strijd, veranderde alles. Na zijn doop in zee en genezing van malaria die hij sinds zijn jeugd droeg, nam Henk's leven een onverwachte wending. Samen met Johanna begon hij het Hatam-volk te dienen: onderwijzend, dopend, discipelend en getuigend van de God die hen had veranderd.
Hun weg kende armoede en afwijzing, maar juist daar ontstonden wonderen: genezingen, groeiend geloof en de geboorte van een Hatam-kerk die later zelf zendelingen uitzond en Gods Woord in de eigen taal ontving.
Wonderen in Papoea is de complete, waargebeurde geschiedenis van Henk en Johanna Lit, verteld door hun kleinzoon Tim Lit op basis van familiemanuscripten en zendingsarchieven. Met meer dan 60 historische foto's is dit boek zowel een christelijk getuigenis als een uniek historisch document.
