Midden-Sumatra, part of the series Reizen En Onderzoekingen Der Sumatra-Expeditie, recounts the Sumatra Expedition of 1877-1879. Sponsored by the Aardrijkskundig Genootschap (Geographical Society), this first volume, first part, details the explorations and research conducted in the heart of Sumatra. Written in Dutch, the book offers a detailed look at the geographical, cultural, and natural aspects of the region during the late 19th century.
This historical account provides valuable insights into the scientific endeavors of the time and the encounters of the expedition members with the local populations and landscapes. It stands as a significant record of Dutch exploration and scientific investigation in the Dutch East Indies.
