This play, centered on the Holy Sacrament, offers invaluable insights into the religious beliefs and theatrical practices of the period. Eelco Verwijs presents a carefully transcribed and edited version of the text, making it accessible to modern scholars and students of Dutch literature and religious history.
The play's setting in Nieuwervaert (now Klundert) provides a specific geographical and historical context, enhancing its significance as a cultural artifact. This edition serves as an important resource for understanding the development of Dutch language and dramatic traditions, as well as the role of religious themes in shaping medieval European culture. A treasure for researchers and enthusiasts of early Dutch literature.
