Dr. Jameson, published in 1908, is a book written by George Seymour Fort that tells the story of Dr. Leander Starr Jameson, a British colonial politician and physician who played a significant role in the colonization of Zimbabwe and South Africa. The book traces Jameson's life from his early days as a medical student to his eventual appointment as the Administrator of Rhodesia. Fort provides an in-depth account of Jameson's involvement in the infamous Jameson Raid, a failed attempt to overthrow the Boer government in South Africa in 1895. The book also explores Jameson's personal life, including his relationships with his family, friends, and colleagues. Throughout the book, Fort portrays Jameson as a complex and flawed character who was both ambitious and idealistic. He was a man who believed in the power of British imperialism to bring civilization to Africa, but also struggled with the moral implications of his actions. Dr. Jameson is a well-researched and comprehensive biography that offers a fascinating insight into the life and times of one of the most controversial figures in British colonial history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
