Down The Slope is a novel written by James Otis and published in 1899. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the life of a young boy named Jack Dudley. Jack lives with his mother and sister in a small town in New England. His father passed away a few years ago, and Jack is struggling to come to terms with his loss. One day, Jack and his friend Frank decide to go sledding down a steep slope outside of town. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when Jack's sled hits a patch of ice and he loses control. He crashes into a tree and is badly injured. The rest of the novel follows Jack's journey to recovery and his emotional struggles as he copes with the aftermath of the accident.Throughout the book, Otis explores themes of grief, resilience, and the importance of family and community. He also touches on the dangers of reckless behavior and the need to take responsibility for one's actions. Overall, Down The Slope is a poignant and thought-provoking novel that offers a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of growing up in a small town in the late 19th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
