Margaret Skinnider did not watch history; she joined it. In Doing My Bit for Ireland, her irish revolutionary memoir, she writes with the clear-eyed urgency of someone who carried messages, risked suspicion, and chose a side when neutrality was impossible. History, told at street level. Part political autobiography classic, part first-person historical narrative, this account illuminates the irish independence movement from within, with rare attention to the lived reality of women revolutionaries Ireland. Skinnider records the atmosphere of early 20th century Dublin and the pressures that built towards the Easter Rising 1916, offering a grounded view of 1910s Ireland history as it unfolded day by day. As a landmark in Cumann na mBan history, it widens the frame beyond speeches and proclamations to the practical, personal work of rebellion. For readers who want an irish history primary source that reads with pace, and for students seeking material for womens studies coursework, Skinnider's voice remains bracingly modern: disciplined, compassionate, and unafraid of complexity. Her memoir stands among the essential testimonies of the period, a political autobiography classic whose candour cuts through myth and counter-myth, and whose moral stakes still feel immediate for today's readers of Ireland. Collectors of a serious irish republican memoir collection will value its immediacy and its place in the canon of revolutionary life-writing. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
