The use of medicine is foi two classes of persons; viz., those who are not acquainted with God, and those of his children who are afraid to trust him. And while there are some medicines which may be used beneficially at times, yet the words of a learned doctor are very true; he said: If all the medicines on earth were cast into the seas, humanity would be better off, but it would be worse off for the fishes. No doubt we were once about all of us medicine topers, and for health and strength were leaning upon the wisdom of men, which is foolishness to God. But since we have learned to believe the Word of God, and move out upon his promises, it is an easy thing to trust him alone in times of sickness. Some one asks, What about broken bones? In such cases, if no one present were capable of setting it properly, I should call a physician or surgeon, if necessary, to set it, and ask the Lord to heal it. I have known of persons having their limbs broken, and by setting the bones and calling upon the Lord to heal them, in less than three days had full use of the injured limb. CHAPTER XVI. MEANS-WHICH, GOD BLESSES. People say, God blesses means, and we should do all we can and ask his blessings upon the same. To be sure there are things which can at times be given to relieve the sick. But there is no remedy so effectual as the one given in the Bible for the children of God to use; none so easily applied.
