Discovery: The Story Of The Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition is a book written by Richard Evelyn Byrd, an American naval officer and explorer who led multiple expeditions to Antarctica. This book chronicles Byrd's second expedition to Antarctica, which took place from 1933 to 1935. The book begins with Byrd's preparations for the expedition, including the selection of the crew and the acquisition of supplies and equipment. It then follows the journey of the crew as they travel to Antarctica and establish their base camp, known as Little America. Throughout the book, Byrd describes the challenges and triumphs of the expedition, including the construction of a new airplane that allowed for aerial exploration of the continent. He also details the scientific research conducted during the expedition, including studies of the weather, geology, and wildlife of Antarctica. Discovery: The Story Of The Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition offers a firsthand account of one of the most important expeditions in the history of Antarctic exploration. Byrd's vivid descriptions of the harsh conditions and stunning landscapes of Antarctica make for a compelling read, while his insights into the scientific discoveries made during the expedition offer valuable insights into the study of the continent. Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of exploration and the natural wonders of Antarctica. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
