Discoverer: The Story of a Satellite is a non-fiction book written by Michael Chester that tells the story of the development and launch of the Discoverer satellite, which was part of the top-secret Corona program during the Cold War. The book provides a detailed account of the technical challenges faced by the engineers and scientists who worked on the project, as well as the political and strategic considerations that drove the development of the satellite. The author also delves into the history of the Cold War and the role that the Discoverer satellite played in the United States' efforts to gather intelligence on the Soviet Union. Through interviews with key players in the Corona program and extensive research, Chester provides an engaging and informative account of one of the most important technological achievements of the 20th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
