Digital signal processors have become indispensable in many engineering disciplines, including electronics, computer, communications, sensing, imaging, and biomedical engineering. They form the workhorse of media processing, allowing the generation, streaming, and storage of high-quality digital audio and video. This book describes the spectral analysis of discrete-time signals, sampling, resampling, realizations of FIR and IIR filters, adaptive digital filter design, circuit implementations of high order filters, discrete Fourier and cosine transforms, FFT algorithms, subband coding, noise cancellation, delta-sigma modulators, and quantization noise shaping. An in-depth coverage of AI image processing and creation is also provided. A practical understanding of the mathematical basis of signal processing is developed through design examples and applications, all infused with the timeless concepts and theories that have helped DSP engineers for the past 50 years. The material is a result of three short courses that were presented to engineers from top industries to refresh the key concepts of DSP quickly. Consequently, the material has been meticulously crafted to maximize clarity and accelerate learning, and is packed with practical insights from many informative discussions with the participants, including DSP system analysis and optimization as well as the increasingly vital role of AI. This book is accessible to any reader equipped with some background knowledge on signals and systems.

About the Author

Benny Bing has developed 6 video U.S. patents that were licensed to industry and received the National Association of Broadcasters Technology Innovation Award for demonstrations of advanced media technologies. He has conducted many custom video courses for Comcast/NBC, Qualcomm, Motorola, universities, and the IEEE, and has served as an expert witness on cable TV and video streaming. More recently, two of his video books were adopted by the AI company Anthropic as training material. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and his current research interest is in optimizing media processing.
