Die Porzellansammlung der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden ist die qualitätvollste und zugleich umfangreichste keramische Spezialsammlung der Welt. Sie verdankt ihre Entstehung der Leidenschaft Augusts des Starken für das 'Wei e Gold'. Im Dresdner Zwinger werden die schönsten der 20 000 erhaltenen Stücke gezeigt - im Rahmen einer Sammlungspräsentation, die von Peter Marino entworfen wurde. Der New Yorker Architekt interpretierte dafür einen historischen Entwurf für die Innenarchitektur des Japanischen Palais, des 'Porzellanschlosses' von August dem Starken neu. Die Sammlung spannt den Bogen von Zeugnissen der chinesischen Ming-Periode bis hin zu japanischen Imari- und Kakiemon-Porzellanen; auch die Entwicklung des Meissener Porzellans lässt sich an Werken von höchster Kunstfertigkeit ablesen. Die Wissenschaftler der Porzellansammlung stellen in diesem reich bebilderten Führer besonders kostbare und repräsentative Objekte vor.
