Dido, Queen of Carthage is a play written by Christopher Marlowe in 1587, which tells the story of Dido, the queen of Carthage, and her tragic love affair with Aeneas, a Trojan prince. The play opens with Aeneas and his fellow Trojans being shipwrecked on the shores of Carthage, where Dido welcomes them and offers them hospitality. Despite Dido's pleas, Aeneas leaves Carthage, causing Dido to be consumed by grief and ultimately leading to her tragic demise.
