Dialect Tales is a collection of short stories written by Katherine Sherwood Bonner McDowell, originally published in 1898. The stories are set in the American South and are written in dialect, capturing the unique speech patterns and colloquialisms of the region. The tales explore themes of race, class, and gender, often highlighting the struggles of African Americans and women in a society dominated by white men. The stories range from humorous and lighthearted to tragic and poignant, and offer a glimpse into the daily lives of people living in the rural South during the late 19th century. McDowell's use of dialect was praised for its authenticity and her ability to capture the nuances of Southern speech. Dialect Tales is considered an important work of Southern literature and a valuable historical document of the region's culture and language.Attracted by that picture? said Dr. Alonzo, affably, his fingers on Aunt Anniky's pulse. My par had that struck off the first time I ever got a tooth out. That's par with the gray hair and the benediction attitude. Tell you, he was proud of me! I had such an awful tussle with that tooth! Thought the old fellow's jaw was bound to break! But I got it out, and after that my par took me with him 'round the country-- starring the provinces, you know--and I practiced on the natives. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
