The Devil's Gipsies
A forbidden Romany tale of devil worship, demons, witches, blood sacrifice, abduction, and the hidden investigations of British Intelligence before the Second World War.For generations the story was whispered about within our Romany family, but rarely spoken of openly. My granddad, Oliver Scarrott Brinkley Smith - a true Romany Gypsy featured in my first book, Romany Gypsies - claimed the events in this story began around 1938, when strange disappearances, occult rituals, and rumours of devil worship drew the attention of British Intelligence and MI5.At the centre of the mystery stood Major Writtle, a secretive investigator whose inquiries led him deep into a terrifying world of demons, witchcraft, blood sacrifice, and ancient superstition hidden within the shadows of pre-war Britain.Around 1948, following Major Writtle's death, his battered old briefcase containing photographs, documents, and strange records connected to the investigation was secretly passed to my granddad for safekeeping.Years later, that same briefcase came into my possession. My mother, Kezia, who plays a central role in this story, would never speak about it.Inside the book are over seventy photographs, family images, and pictures connected to the tale itself. Family members and friends may recognise faces, places, and strange similarities to people they once knew.I do not claim this story to be true.Perhaps it was nothing more than an old Romany Gypsy tale passed down through the family. Then again... perhaps not.
