This study focuses on the development of materials for removing heavy metals in water treatment. The raw materials studied are derived from coconut waste. The conversion of coconut shells into activated carbon and the adsorption of lead are the subjects of this work. The chemical synthesis process for activated carbon consists of an impregnation step using orthophosphoric acid, followed by heat treatment at approximately 450 C. To study the effectiveness of the activated carbon, lead adsorption tests were conducted. The results revealed a maximum capacity of 71.4285 mg/g. The Langmuir model was adapted to describe lead adsorption with a correlation coefficient (R ) of 0.9941. Given the results obtained, activated carbon derived from coconut shells appears effective for removing heavy metals.
