Desert Conquest, also known as Precious Waters, is a novel written by Arthur Murray Chisholm in 1913. The story is set in the deserts of Arizona and revolves around the conflict between two ranchers over access to a precious water source. The protagonist, Jack Merrill, inherits his father's ranch and finds himself in a bitter dispute with his neighbor, John Steele, who wants to divert the water from the main source to his own land. As the feud intensifies, Jack falls in love with Steele's daughter, Mary, adding another layer of complexity to the conflict. The novel explores themes of greed, love, and the struggle for survival in a harsh and unforgiving environment. Chisholm's vivid descriptions of the desert landscape and the characters' struggles to survive in it make for a compelling read. Desert Conquest is a classic Western novel that will appeal to fans of the genre and anyone interested in the history of the American West. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
