School is out, and the Derby Daredevils are ready for a summer packed with roller derby in book #3 of this fun highly illustrated middle grade sports series.

Filled with roller derby action, friendship, humor, and Sophie Escabasse's lively illustrations, Tomoko Takes the Lead is an encouraging middle-grade adventure about courage, self-confidence, and finding your voice when it matters most.

When the Austin junior league heads to Dallas for an exciting sleepaway roller derby camp, shy and thoughtful Tomoko can't wait to go. Between her love of roller derby and years of camping adventures with her uncle, she's convinced this will be the perfect summer.

But camp turns out to be very different from what she expected. Instead of hiking trails and sleeping under the stars, Tomoko finds herself surrounded by unfamiliar kids in a busy city setting. While her teammates jump into new friendships, Tomoko struggles to feel comfortable outside her usual routine.

Then disaster strikes when the team gets separated from camp without a grown-up or a phone to guide them back. Suddenly, Tomoko's outdoor skills, calm thinking, and quiet determination become exactly what the Derby Daredevils need. Can she step out of the background and discover that leadership comes in many forms?
