Who Are the Saints According to the Biblical Account?
When discussing deliverance ministry, one of the most controversial questions in the Church is whether a Christian can be demonized or come under demonic influence. The devil thrives on this debate because confusion concerning the subject can prevent the Church from recognizing and dealing with demonic oppression according to the pattern established in Scripture.

The devil thrives on this debate because confusion concerning the subject can prevent the Church from recognizing and dealing with demonic oppression according to the pattern established in Scripture.
If the enemy can convince the Church that demons have no place among believers who need deliverance, then the Church may neglect an important aspect of the ministry of Jesus Christ. The question, therefore, is not simply what tradition teaches, but what does the Bible actually reveal?
The biblical accounts provide several passages that deserve serious examination. Judas Iscariot is one example. Judas was numbered among the Twelve and participated in the ministry entrusted to them, including authority over demons (Luke 9:1). Yet, toward the end of Jesus' ministry, Scripture states that Satan entered into Judas (Luke 22:3). This raises an important question: How could someone who had walked with Jesus and participated in His ministry later come under satanic influence?
Another significant example is the woman described in Luke 13:11-16. Jesus referred to her as a daughter of Abraham and yet stated that she had been bound by Satan for eighteen years. Jesus then delivered her from that bondage. This account is particularly important because Jesus Himself identified her with covenant language rather than describing her simply as a pagan unbeliever.
These examples lead to a fundamental question: Who are the saints according to the biblical account?
The Bible does not limit the concept of saints exclusively to the New Testament Church. The Scriptures also speak of God's holy people in the Old Testament. Therefore, when examining the deliverance ministry of Jesus, we must consider the spiritual and covenant status of the people to whom He ministered. Was Deliverance meant for Unbelievers?
Some ministers teach that demons should only be cast out of unbelievers and that Christians cannot require deliverance. However, this position must also be carefully tested against the biblical record.Throughout the ministry of Jesus, deliverance was repeatedly associated with people who belonged to the Jewish covenant community. Jesus ministered primarily within Israel, and some of those whom He delivered were people who acknowledged Him as Lord, worshiped in the synagogue, and were identified with the covenant people. The woman in Luke 13:11-16 is particularly significant. Jesus called her a daughter of Abraham, yet He also said that Satan had bound her. Her covenant identity did not prevent her from requiring deliverance.
This demonstrates an important biblical principle: religious identity, covenant association, or outward participation in worship did not automatically mean that a person was free from demonic oppression.
Therefore, the Church must carefully distinguish between salvation, spiritual identity, and the need for deliverance. These matters should not be merged together or settled by tradition. They must be examined through the complete testimony of Scripture.
The purpose of this book is therefore to return to the biblical accounts, examine the people whom Jesus and His apostles delivered, identify who the Scriptures describe as God's saints, and determine whether the claim that Christians cannot be demonized is truly supported by the biblical record.
