All around them the old ways of life are being assailed by fresh and vigorous ideas. Prosperity and success seem built into the nation's future.
Anne's father stays resolute that his name shall live on; and from Anne's ever-growing brood chooses one of his grandsons to inherit his fortune, provided the boy changes his surname to Banks. But the boy has ambitions of his own. The course of dreams, it seems, never did run smooth.
