Some days feel different and that can be hard to understand, especially for children.
Dennis is a gentle, curious cat who notices that something in his world has changed. As he moves through familiar rooms, quiet sunbeams, and comforting routines, he begins to understand that feelings can shift, and that it's okay to take time to adjust.
Told through the reassuring perspective of an animal character, this illustrated story helps children ages 4-8 explore feelings connected to grief, loss of a pet, and emotional change in a way that feels safe, calm, and hopeful. The language is gentle and supportive, making it ideal for shared reading, bedtime, or moments when children need reassurance.
Hidden throughout the illustrations are ten small golden butterflies, inviting young readers to look closely, engage with the story, and discover comforting symbols woven into each page. These quiet details add an element of fun while reinforcing the theme of love continuing in new ways.
This book is ideal for:- Children who love animal stories, especially cats
- Children experiencing the loss of a pet
- Parents, teachers, and carers supporting emotional wellbeing
- Young readers navigating change or transition
- Families talking about grief in gentle, age-appropriate ways
Printed in a child-friendly format and created to be revisited again and again, this story provides warmth, familiarity, and a sense of emotional safety.
If this story connects with your family, sharing your thoughts helps other readers discover it too.
