On 20 June 2006, 21-year-old nursing student Frauke Liebs left an Irish pub in Paderborn, Germany, after watching a World Cup match. She told friends she was tired and would walk the short distance home. She never arrived.
What followed was not silence but something far more unsettling. Over the next week, Frauke's phone made contact again and again-short calls, a single text, voices on speakerphone in rooms filled with family desperate for answers. She said she was fine. She said she would be home soon. She would not say where she was.
Technical records later revealed a different story. The first text after her disappearance did not come from Paderborn but from Nieheim, 35 kilometres away. Subsequent calls connected through industrial zones around the city-non-residential areas where a brief stop at night would go unnoticed. Her remains were found four months later in a forest near Lichtenau, within the same geographic triangle defined by the evidence.
Dark Evidence is a work of narrative non-fiction that reconstructs the case from the only sources available: police statements, court documents, media reports, and the extensive public record that has accumulated over nearly two decades. It is not a thriller. It is not a solved story. It is a careful, respectful account of what is known-and an honest acknowledgment of what remains unknown.
No dialogue has been invented. No scenes have been imagined beyond what the documented record supports. The distinction between fact, inference, and conjecture is maintained throughout.
