Vore Folkeviser Fra Middelalderen, published in 1891, is a collection of Danish folk ballads from the medieval period, compiled by Johannes Christoffer Hagemann Reinhardt Steenstrup. This volume offers a glimpse into the rich oral tradition of Denmark, preserving songs that reflect the lives, beliefs, and historical events of the time. These ballads, passed down through generations, provide valuable insights into medieval Danish culture and society.
The collection showcases the storytelling power of folk music, with narratives of love, heroism, tragedy, and the supernatural. Steenstrup's work is an essential resource for scholars and enthusiasts interested in Danish history, folklore, and the evolution of European balladry. It stands as a testament to the enduring appeal and cultural significance of these traditional songs.
