Why Parents Trust Laura Laura Lee Lockwood is the creator of the Cuddle Up with Laura children's book series and a recognized expert in writing emotionally supportive books for young children. With more than forty years of hands-on experience working with families, Laura brings a rare depth of understanding to children's emotional challenges. She teaches families how to meet those challenges in ways that are developmentally appropriate, comforting, and effective. Laura's expertise is grounded in a strong academic foundation and advanced education in psychology, counseling, and hypnosis. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, and advanced education in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In addition, she is a Certified Hypnotherapist (CHt) and a certified Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) practitioner. This extensive education allows Laura to translate complex emotional and psychological concepts into simple, nurturing stories that young children can understand and parents can trust. In 1990, Laura began her career as a residential treatment counselor with the YMCA, supporting abused youth ages 10-17 in a residential setting. She later worked as a Parole Officer within an Intensive Supervision Program for repeat and violent offenders, followed by work with the Texas Youth Commission managing resources and support for at-risk youth and their families. These roles provided firsthand insight into trauma, emotional dysregulation, and the long-term impact of unmet emotional needs, reinforcing her belief that emotional guidance must begin early in life. Alongside her professional work, Laura has volunteered with children throughout her life. Over an eight-year period, she mentored approximately fifty students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, created a college-preparation mentoring program, and served on the board of the Sunset Foundation. She also spent more than a decade tutoring young children who were struggling academically, helping them build reading, writing, and math skills by supporting their emotional growth. Laura's commitment to children has been consistent and lifelong, beginning at age twelve with her first babysitting job. The Cuddle Up with Laura series reflects this deep expertise and intentional focus. Each book is designed to support specific emotional needs in early childhood. Through warmth, repetition, and reassurance, Laura's books provide parents with meaningful tools to support their children's emotional well-being at home. Her mission statement for Triple L Books is simple and heartfelt: Hugs Matter. Now living in New Zealand after many years in the United States, Laura continues to write with one guiding purpose . . . to help parents raise emotionally resilient children and to create a world where every child feels the love of a daily hug.
