Lost in the misty marshland of Coastal North Carolina, college student Birgitta Davis, on her way to her first television internship assignment, ends up stuck in the salt marsh. She contacts the station's camera man, Cliff to pick her up, but he never shows. While awaiting rescue, Birgitta witnesses something terrifying, a monster walking through the mist. Meanwhile, her mother Signe, panicked about her missing daughter calls her brother, Ned Ferris, who departs for the Carolina coast immediately. When Birgitta finally gets out of the marsh, she discovers that a grisly murder has occurred. When she tells her uncle Ned about the monster she saw, he contacts his friend, cryptozoologist Wolfgang Kilmer, who determines from the description that it could be the Carolina Butcher. Wolf makes his way to Coastal Carolina in search of the creature. Ned and Wolf, along with a local retired lawman, seek to uncover the menace.
