La vida de las personas, en especial sus relaciones sentimentales, podrÃa parecerse a un juego de naipes. El destino te otorga una carta de cada palo con las que has de jugar, pues marcarán tu vida. Puedes perder la partida si no lo haces con inteligencia. Si el destino te otorga el As de corazones, tendrás la suerte (o no) de mantener una sola pareja durante toda tu vida. Pero la baraja es muy amplia y hay muchos números. Hay personas a las que le han otorgado el dos, el tres o el cuatro. El protagonista de esta historia tuvo que jugar con el cinco de corazones.
El relato trata de la vida sentimental del protagonista, Yago Otazu, que no supo (o no pudo) encontrar una mujer definitiva con la que compartir toda su vida. El libro relata las cinco relaciones más importantes que tuvo, sus ilusionantes inicios y las causas que le llevaron a los puntos de ruptura que le impidieron continuar con su relación. En dos palabras: sus fracasos. Estos fracasos pueden abocar a la soledad.
He aprovechado para verter algunos de mis pensamientos sobre ciertas materias que son controvertidas y, en ocasiones, polÃticamente incorrectas.
También he aprovechado para hacer un pequeño homenaje a mi hermano Chema (Libi en el relato), que nos dejó en 1995, recordando algunas de sus travesuras, porque fue una persona magnÃfica, con un corazón extraordinario, aunque su modus operandi traÃa loco a nuestros padres y a sus ocho hermanos. Algunas de sus hazañas (sólo un diez por ciento de las que sepamos que realizó) aparecen en esta novela. No conozco a nadie que no lo quisiera. Fue un extraordinario piloto; pero ni la aviación, ni el enorme número de accidentes que tuvo en la carretera, se lo pudieron llevar. Fue el cáncer su asesino.
