Champe's Adventure is a historical novel written by Henry Lee and originally published in 1864. The story is set during the American Revolution and follows the adventures of John Champe, a soldier in the Continental Army who is tasked with a dangerous mission to capture the traitor Benedict Arnold. Champe is chosen for the mission because of his skills as a horseman and his ability to blend in with the enemy. He must travel alone into enemy territory, posing as a deserter in order to gain Arnold's trust and gather information about his plans. Along the way, Champe faces numerous obstacles and dangers, including hostile British soldiers and treacherous loyalists.Despite the risks, Champe remains determined to complete his mission and bring Arnold to justice. He is aided by a cast of colorful characters, including a loyal slave named Pompey and a brave young woman named Peggy Shippen, who becomes Arnold's wife.Champe's Adventure is a thrilling tale of espionage, bravery, and patriotism, set against the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous periods in American history. It offers a vivid portrayal of life during the Revolution and the sacrifices made by those who fought for independence. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
