This volume contains three of Plautus' most celebrated comedies: Captivi (The Captives), Trinummus (The Three Bob Day), and Rudens (The Rope). Titus Maccius Plautus (c. 254-184 BC) was a Roman playwright, whose comedies are among the earliest surviving works in Latin literature. Known for his farcical situations, stock characters, and lively dialogue, Plautus' plays were hugely popular in his time and have continued to be performed and studied for centuries.
Captivi is unique among Plautus' works for its lack of typical comedic elements like disguise or romantic intrigue, focusing instead on themes of loyalty and brotherhood.
