This book develops criminogenic embeddedness as a relational mechanism linking strain, social control, social learning, and life-course change. It proposes the Criminogenic Embeddedness Model (CEM), which explains how network structure and network content jointly shape criminal adaptation. The model distinguishes four ideal-typical pathways and derives eight propositions concerning network position, control, learning, feedback, and desistance. A provisional Criminogenic Embeddedness Assessment Score (CEAS) is presented strictly as a measurement agenda, not a validated risk instrument. Drawing on advances in networked criminology, desistance research, and longitudinal network studies, the book argues that embeddedness adds theoretical value when it explains why similar strains produce different outcomes, why some turning points fail to generate durable desistance, and how residual network configurations sustain risk after behavioral change. The book identifies decisive tests required to distinguish the model from established interactional and developmental theories, and closes by considering the model's implications for reentry, prevention, and community-level practice.
