A Cowboy Named Indian tells the story about a young boy who was born in Indian Territory and his birth mother named him Indian as his first name. His parents were later killed by a band of Indians, but his mother had hidden him, his life was spared. Later as group of Cherokee Indians found him and one of the men brought him home to his wife and since they had no children, they became his ma and pa. When the child was found he was carrying a bible and, in that bible, they found his birth mother had named him Indian, because he was born in Indian Territory. Indian grew up wanting to be a cowboy taking the cattle to market from this place called Texas to Kansas. So, he left his home at the Indian Reservation to travel to Texas where he wanted to learn how to be a cowboy so he could take the cattle to the market in Kansas.
