Cousin Henry is a novel by Anthony Trollope, first published in 1879. The story revolves around the character of Henry Jones, a distant cousin of the wealthy and respected Bartram family. Henry is a timid and insecure man who lives in fear of losing his inheritance and being forced to work for a living. When his cousin, the elderly and ailing Mr. Indefer Jones, dies, Henry is left as the sole heir to the Bartram estate. However, he soon discovers that Mr. Indefer had intended to leave the estate to his niece Isabel instead, but had been persuaded by Henry to change his will. As Isabel challenges the validity of the will, Henry becomes increasingly desperate to keep the estate, resorting to underhanded tactics and lies. The novel explores themes of greed, morality, and the consequences of one's actions. Trollope's writing is known for its detailed characterizations and social commentary, and Cousin Henry is no exception, offering a nuanced portrayal of a man struggling with his own conscience and the consequences of his actions.1879. And so have I, Uncle Indefer; and as my conscience is backed by my inclination, whereas yours is not- See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
