The Courtland Saunders Tract For Soldiers presents selections from the Bible, thoughtfully curated for the spiritual guidance of soldiers. Specifically intended for the First Corn Exchange Regiment of Philadelphia (the 118th Regiment, P. V.) during the American Civil War, this collection offers solace, strength, and moral direction drawn directly from scripture.
This historical document provides a glimpse into the religious practices and beliefs that sustained soldiers during a tumultuous period in American history. The carefully chosen biblical passages reflect the needs and challenges faced by those in military service, emphasizing themes of courage, faith, and perseverance. While its authorship remains anonymous, the text stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith in times of conflict, making it a valuable resource for historians, theologians, and anyone interested in the intersection of religion and military life during the Civil War era.
