Kate Dalton is a woman of a certain age, who has diligently set up her life to now reap its rewards: a supportive husband, successful adult children, and the space to embark on a new career at a luxurious country club. What would it take to throw it all away? Counterfeit Husband is the devastating and dramatic novel that mines the depths of the human heart to reveal how one woman could come up irredeemably empty, and all in the name of love. When Kate meets Tony Lawrence, the tall, charming, general manager, ten years her junior, she is quickly in his magnetic sway. She soon finds herself driven to abandon the life she so carefully constructed to follow her lover half way around the world to Hong Kong, to be with him. As Tony's control, lies, deception and betrayal mount over eighteen years, Kate clings to her misguided love all the more feverishly. Both moving and raw, Counterfeit Husband lifts the marital veil on false promises and hidden pathologies, to expose just how easy it can be for a woman's own heart to lead her astray, and how difficult it can be to find the way to put the pieces back together again. Born and raised in England, Marilyn Adkisson now lives in the Napa Valley, California. An avid writer, she completed her first novel, Cry Softly For Me, in the mid-nineties and considers that book her apprenticeship before writing, The Rocking Chair. Having just completed, Counterfeit Husband, she is now concentrating on her prequel to, The Rocking Chair, which is the story of the Hamilton ancestry in Victorian England and during the abolitionist movement in America, entitled, Charmaine.
