Cotton Mather and the Witchcraft Trials by Zoltan Haraszti is a historical account of the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692. The book focuses on the role of Cotton Mather, a prominent Puritan minister and author, in the trials. Haraszti examines Mather's writings and sermons leading up to and during the trials, as well as his personal involvement in the proceedings. The book also delves into the political and social climate of colonial Massachusetts, and how it contributed to the hysteria and persecution of suspected witches. Haraszti provides a nuanced analysis of Mather's beliefs and actions, challenging the traditional view of him as a villainous figure in the witch trials. The book is well-researched and provides a comprehensive overview of the events surrounding the Salem witch trials, making it an essential read for anyone interested in American history or the history of witchcraft. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
