Confucius: A Drama In Two Acts is a play written by Sadakichi Hartmann, originally published in 1903. The play is based on the life and teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius, who lived during the 5th century BCE. The play is divided into two acts, each depicting a different aspect of Confucius' life and philosophy. The first act of the play focuses on Confucius' early life as a scholar and his struggles to gain recognition for his teachings. The act also explores Confucius' relationships with his disciples and his family, as well as his views on morality, ethics, and social order. The second act of the play takes place later in Confucius' life, after he has gained a following of disciples and become a respected teacher. The act explores Confucius' political views and his attempts to influence the rulers of his time. It also delves into his personal struggles and the challenges he faced as he tried to balance his teachings with the political realities of his time.Overall, Confucius: A Drama In Two Acts is a thought-provoking exploration of the life and teachings of one of the most influential philosophers in Chinese history. The play offers a nuanced and complex portrayal of Confucius, highlighting both his strengths and his flaws, and providing insight into the social and political context in which he lived.Written 1894-1916, 1920-1922.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
