What do a barbarian warrior, a Native American child, an African slave, and a modern-day businessman all have in common? They all share one spirit's journey in A.E. Hinton's first novel, Confessions of Lifetimes in the Fountain of Choice: Ego vs. Spirit.
In a world of complex decisions with thorny ethical consequences, Confessions offers a simple, straightforward approach toward spiritual living through a series of vignettes about one spirit's many returns to share the flesh with ego. In each new journey of the flesh, the narrator speaks of his experiences in life-lessons geared toward trusting the word of his spirit to save his soul. A.E. Hinton uses a numerous selection of characters and shows how each one faces very similar dilemmas in the flesh, while attempting to choose the most rewarding path offered by ego or spirit.
A.E. Hinton is a forty-year old quadriplegic, due to being struck by a hit and run drunk driver in Chicago during February of 1990. In this, his first published work of fiction; Hinton combines his love for the classic literature of Edgar Allan Poe with an abiding interest in the work of modern-day spiritual guides like Deepak Chopra and the late Florence Scovel Shinn. The author was born and raised in Knoxville Tennessee but now lives in Chicago and has made it his home.
Ex-NFL player Darryl Stingley of the New England Patriots, whose career was ended by a spinal cord injury, has this to say about Confessions:
Confessions offers a pure and exciting spin on man's struggle to follow the basic instincts of the human spirit. The parables in this book also reveal responsibility in a perspective that clearly shows each reader how the choices we make design our path in life.
