Nowadays, many choreographers see folkloric dance not only as a passing tradition, but also as an art form. With this in mind, the aim of this study is to reflect on folklore, popular culture and Brazilian parafolkloric dances today. According to FUNARTE, popular culture is understood as any artistic and cultural manifestation produced, enjoyed, preserved and transformed by the social groups that make up the Brazilian nation. In this sense, this book seeks to present a description of how parafolkloric dance groups in Brazil currently develop their choreographic process. It was found that the choreographic works oscillate between resistance and acceptance. Resistance on the part of people who don't see folkloric dance as an art form and subject to external intervention. And acceptance on the part of curious choreographers, dancers who like to experiment with new possibilities, where contradictions, ruptures and new attempts are accepted and fundamental elements in the creative process. Choreography, memory and research are key points in these groups.
