To the Founders, Pioneers, and Legends of Martial Arts in America...
The 2026 Commemorative Who's Who in the Martial Arts Legacy Biography Book is respectfully dedicated to the extraordinary pioneers, founders, teachers, competitors, and visionaries who helped establish martial arts in America.
We honor legends such as O'Sensei Jan Wellendorf, whose leadership, teaching, innovation, and commitment helped build generations of martial artists and preserve the history of our arts. His influence holds a special place in the history of the Who's Who in the Martial Arts legacy.
We also recognize the pioneering contributions of such historic figures as Dale Brooks, James Pat Burleson, David Castro, Pat E. Johnson, Mikie Rowe Moore, Chuck Norris, Jhoon Rhee, Allen Steen, Jan Wellendorf, James Whites, and the many other masters whose names echo throughout the history of martial arts in America. Their schools, organizations, tournaments, teachings, and students helped create the foundation upon which generations continue to build.
Some became household names. Others quietly changed lives from inside their dojos. All contributed to a legacy greater than themselves.
This commemorative edition honors those who came before us, celebrates those carrying the torch today, and inspires those who will lead tomorrow.
Their teachings became traditions.
Their sacrifices created opportunities.
Their students became teachers.
Their stories became history.
Their legacy lives on through us.
May we never forget the pioneers who opened doors, built schools, organized tournaments, developed systems, and dedicated their lives to sharing the martial arts across America.
Honor the Past. Celebrate the Present. Inspire the Future.
This book is dedicated to them.
