Come Forth is a novel written by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps and first published in 1890. The story follows the life of a young woman named Lila, who is struggling to find her place in the world. Lila is haunted by the memory of her mother, who died when she was a child, and she feels disconnected from her father and the rest of her family. As Lila grows older, she becomes increasingly disillusioned with the narrow-mindedness of her small New England town and begins to seek out new experiences and ideas. She becomes involved in the women's suffrage movement and starts to question the traditional gender roles that have been imposed on her.Against this backdrop of social and political change, Lila also finds herself falling in love with a young man named Philip. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Philip is engaged to another woman, and Lila must navigate her feelings of love and loyalty as she tries to figure out what she wants from life.Throughout the novel, Phelps explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the struggle for social justice. Come Forth is a powerful and thought-provoking work of fiction that offers a window into the lives of women in the late 19th century and the challenges they faced as they sought to assert their independence and autonomy in a rapidly changing world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
