Every person who shall receive, collect or receipt for premiums of insurance, whether as original payment for policies, or for renewal or continuance of policies, shall be deemed to be an agent of the company to which such premiums are paid, and if acting without a license for so doing, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction, shall be fined fifty dollars for each offense. For solicitors of fire insurance, for companies that have not taken out a city license, two hundred dollars for each company; and for solicitors of life insurance, for companies that have not taken out license, one hundred dollars. Any person violating this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction, shall be fined one hundred dollars for each offense. Mutual aid associations or clubs insuring lives on the assessment plan, who have not organized as societies for benevolent purposes, shall pay a license of fifty dollars. Marriage, natal, and other associations of like kind, shall pay a license of twenty-five dollars. 39. For every accident insurance company, taking risks exclusively against accidents, twenty five dollars. 40. For carrying on the business of a general railroad ticket agent, twenty-five dollars. 41. For keeping a pistol or shooting gallery, thirty dollars. 42. For keeping a warehouse for the storage of cotton, one and-a half cents for each bale of cotton stored. Returns of the number of bales stored must be made under oath to the clerk of the city council quarterly, on the first day of October, January, April and July, and the tax must be paid within thirty days from such return day.
