Every Sefer Torah on earth carries the same words. No two carry them the same way.

The skin, the ink, the shape of a single letter, the width of a blank space, the crowns on the heads of seven letters, the scars of repairs made and letters deliberately left alone: all of it is evidence, and a trained eye can read it. A scroll from Yemen and a scroll from Poland are both the Torah, and they are as different as two dialects of one language. Learn to hear the dialect, and the parchment tells you where it was written, roughly when, by a scribe trained in which tradition, and sometimes what happened to the community that carried it.
