As the morning breaks over Charleston, S.C., Morris Island Lighthouse, built in 1876, stands as a testament to endurance. It was decommissioned in 1962 but had served as a beacon leading ships safely through the difficult waters into the peaceful harbor. Although no longer in service, it is a quintessential symbol of survival and hope pointing upward to the source of all creation, God. It is a metaphor for the trials and tribulations we endure in our daily lives as we navigate through life's stormy waters. It reminds us of the passage in Mark 4:39 where Jesus commanded the winds and seas to 'Peace Be Still.
