Valentina Reyes has left Chicago. The confrontation with her mother - the Virgin Mary in the window, the silence that followed - opened something that distance is the only treatment for. She's in Texas now, working the circuit through Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio, posting on Eros, building a clientele among oil money and the Black professional class, and trying to outrun the one thing that follows her everywhere: herself.
Then she meets David. He's a structural engineer. He's kind, educated, and he knows what Valentina does for a living and doesn't run. The love story is real - but so is the gap between wanting to stop and being able to stop, and The Circuit maps that territory with unflinching precision.
When an ICE detention center in South Texas becomes the latest institution to process Valentina's body without seeing her life, the novel confronts the intersection of immigration enforcement and trans survival with the same structural clarity the series brings to every system it examines.
Told entirely in Valentina's voice - bilingual, sensory, spiritual, flowing between English and Spanish the way she flows between cities - The Circuit is a novel about faith and identity, mother-daughter rupture, romantic love as both liberation and compromise, and the particular loneliness of a woman who is always in transit and never home.
The Circuit is Book Two of the Posted Up series, five novels about an interconnected family of Black and Latina transgender women navigating survival sex work in America. Each book follows a different woman. Each book confronts a different institution. Together, they form a single, devastating portrait of community, survival, and the architecture of invisible lives.
