The Cinnamon Isle Boy is a novel by Mrs. E. C. Hutchings that tells the story of a young boy named Janaka, who lives on a cinnamon plantation in Sri Lanka. The novel is set in the early 20th century, during the time of British colonial rule in Sri Lanka.Janaka is a curious and adventurous boy, who dreams of exploring the world beyond the plantation. However, his father, who is the manager of the plantation, wants him to follow in his footsteps and become a cinnamon planter.Despite his father's wishes, Janaka continues to dream of adventure, and his life takes an unexpected turn when he meets a group of British tourists who are visiting the plantation. Among them is a young girl named Mary, who becomes Janaka's friend and confidant. As Janaka grows older, he becomes increasingly aware of the injustices and inequalities of colonial rule, and he begins to question his own role in perpetuating these systems. With Mary's encouragement, he sets out on a journey of self-discovery and learns to stand up for what he believes in.The Cinnamon Isle Boy is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of identity, friendship, and social justice. It offers a glimpse into the complex history of Sri Lanka under colonial rule, while also celebrating the resilience and courage of its people. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
