In the autumn of 1997, Kevin Schumacher walked away from a shattered life to keep a single promise. With his career gone and his parents lost, he boarded a plane for Italy, searching for a clean start and the truth behind a faith he wasn't sure he still believed in. He went to a quiet hilltop in Lazio to find God; he didn't expect to find Janet.
Janet had traveled from Ecuador by a path as unlikely as Kevin's-a series of unplanned circumstances that placed her exactly where she shouldn't have been. By every practical measure, they were the wrong people in the wrong place. But from their very first conversation, they both knew the truth: they were exactly where they were meant to be.
What followed was an extraordinary two-year odyssey spanning three continents. Their love was tested by a relentless bureaucracy of stamped rejections, nights in holding facilities, and the terrifying reality of having no money and no clear plan. Through it all, Kevin discovered that God was often most present in the very machinery designed to keep them apart.
Church of Two is a gripping memoir about the courage to say yes when the cost is unknown. It is a story of faith tested in transit, where a single ferry stub or a letter becomes a lifeline. And at the heart of it all lies a mystery that defies logic...an empty account that still somehow, miraculously provides.
