Chronologia Sacra Episcoporum Belgii offers a fascinating historical account of the bishops of Belgium, specifically focusing on the archbishops of Mechelen and their six suffragans. Beginning in 1561, when new bishoprics were established in Belgium, this work chronicles their history in hexameter verse. This unique approach blends historical narrative with poetic form, providing a detailed yet artistic portrayal of significant ecclesiastical figures and events during a formative period in Belgian religious history.
Anonymous authorship adds an element of mystery to this detailed chronicle, making it a valuable resource for scholars interested in religious history, Belgian history, and the use of poetry as a historical medium. The blend of historical data and poetic expression offers a unique insight into the religious landscape of the time.
